10-7 FOR HUDSON

If only they had realized sooner. Turns out the Michigan Libertarian Party, which champions itself as the third-largest political party in the U.S. (in a primarily two-party nation), founded in 1971 and champions personal autonomy, advocates for free market capitalism, slashing or eliminating income taxes and abolishing the IRS, as well as promoting a foreign policy of peace and free trade, doesn’t like the guy, Anthony Hudson, they chose as their candidate for governor. In late September, the party sent out a statement disavowing Hudson, who is a Genesee County truck driver. The statement, posted on X, said, “the ideology promoted by the Hudson campaign fundamentally contradicts the core values, platform and purpose of the Libertarian Party.” Oof. Hudson first ran as a Republican for governor but switched to Libertarian in February, and was formally nominated by that party in June. Hudson, for his part, responded on social media that he was fine with their rejection of him. “I disavow the party insiders whose priorities I believe have moved far away from the principles of individual liberty, limited government, personal responsibility and constitutional freedom,” Hudson said. He has allegedly been accused of making numerous threats against elected officials and targeting Michigan’s Muslim community, especially in Dearborn, citing “Sharia law” in his social media posts. While they have disavowed one another, Hudson appears as the Libertarian candidate as absentee ballots went out in late September and ballots have long been printed. Don’t think they’ll be attending one another’s election night party.
