PICTURE OF WEALTH
Kristi Rogers, second wife of former U.S. House member and now-candidate (once again) for Senate Mike Rogers, got her fair share of media attention in the last couple of weeks passing out $10 gas gift cards at a local gas station in Detroit. One can only assume that is part of the campaign’s efforts to increase votes in Detroit. No word on how much was given away of what was said to drivers who pulled up where Kristi was greeting customers. The unusual antic was taking place just as a Substack piece by Ryan Grim and Nancy Skinner was making the rounds with a detailed history of how major dollars (millions and billions) flowed to Kristi-connected private security firms while Mike was a member of and later chaired the powerful House Intelligence Committee in Congress. Members of Congress noted in the piece that Mike was basically “walled off” to avoid conflicts of interest on contracts sought by Kristi’s private firm and at least one firm where she climbed the executive ranks but readers could be left with a lingering question. Mike Rogers, as he left Congress, went to work for firms in the industries which he had been regulating. All of this goes to answer the overriding question of how a member of Congress, left with little in the way of assets coming off the divorce from his first wife, according to Grim and Skinner, can now afford multiple homes in different states.
