NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Arizona Senator Mark Kelly (D) and his wife, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who suffered a severe brain injury in January 2011 when a gunman shot her and others at a constituent event and has since formed Giffords PAC, a national gun violence prevention organization, have put $1 million behind two notable Democratic Michigan candidates, gubernatorial hopeful Jocelyn Benson and congressional candidate Christina Hines who is running against Republican Michael Bouchard, son of the Oakland County Sheriff by the same name, for the 10th District of Congress. The money is part of a $10 million commitment to elect and support gun safety champions in 2026, the PAC said. “Christina Hines knows what it takes to keep communities safe – as a prosecutor, she’s done it,” said Giffords PAC Executive Director Emma Brown. “Jocelyn Benson has led on public safety and fought to protect Michiganders from armed political violence.”
