U OF M REGENT RACE

1 min read

Bloomfield Township Treasurer Michael Schostak, a Republican who is seeking a spot on the University of Michigan Board of Regents, got a good dose of coverage from The Detroit News a couple of Sundays ago in a piece by assistant editorial page editor Kaitlyn Buss. Schostak and perennial candidate/Republican Party gadfly Lena Epstein are running against Democrats Paul Brown (an incumbent) and questionable-nominee Amir Makled. Schostak also received the endorsement of the The Detroit News and of the student newspaper at U of M which noted it is the first time in over 20 years the publication has backed a Republican. The endorsements, a familiar last name in the tri-county area, and the approximate $550,000 he has raised in this election cycle for things like social media ads, could signal a possible victory for Schostak but if a projected Blue wave shows itself, it will take a number of voters willing to split their tickets and fill in the blank for this Republican candidate.
