The same Mitchell Research poll also took a quick look at the race for governor, with substantial undecideds in each hypothetical race. If the Republican primary were held today, Congressman John James would take 48 percent with former Michigan AG Mike Cox at 11 percent; former Speaker of the House Tom Leonard at five percent; state Senate Minority Leaders Aric Nesbitt at two percent; and Ralph Rebrandt at one percent. On the Democrat side, if held today the primary results would be Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson at 48 percent, with Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist at 12 percent and Chris Swanson, Genesee County Sheriff, at five percent. If conducted today, the general race results would be James at 37 percent, Benson at 31 percent and former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan at 18 percent. In a Benson-Cox match up, the SOS would take 33 percent of the vote, Cox would get 32 percent and Duggan 19 percent.
