MORE ON NESBITT

A long-time Trump acolyte, Republican Aric Nesbitt has an established history in the House and Senate as a member of the anti-abortion faction and a lawmaker who has not voted in support of adding discrimination protection for members of the LGBTQ+ community. He was among five Republicans voting against the most recent state budget. And, to call into question the supposed kumbaya of the “united” party, Nesbitt is now pushing to rename the state government Elliott-Larsen building, so named in 2020 to honor Detroit Democrat Rep. Daisy Elliott and Republican Rep. Mel Larsen of north Oakland at the time for their bi-partisan civil rights act signed into law in January 1977 by Republican Governor William Milliken. The building was originally named after Michigan’s second governor, Lewis Cass, a slave owner who was instrumental in helping to remove indigenous Indians when he was in Washington D.C. The proposed new name? Yep – Donald Trump.
