It’s the way of the world. We all want to help our kids start out in their careers. For Michael Bouchard Jr., that parental assist may just take him all the way from Birmingham, where he grew up and attended Brother Rice High School, to the military, and now to Congress, where he is running for the 10th District as a Republican to replace the ever-restless John James. According to reports, his recent campaign finance report indicates that more than half of the donations to his campaign came from people who know his father as well as an outside group of donors who know his dad, long-time Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “I absolutely love the support my father and some of our lifelong friends have brought,” the former Army paratrooper told The Detroit News. “Nepo baby’s going to nepo,” said one politico. “It’s the normal thing to do.” Competing Republican Robert Lulgjuraj is complaining to all who’ll listen that he feels like he’s running against both Bouchard’s...but that’s just the name of this game. On one side, voters may feel comfortable with a recognizable name. On the con, many voters today resent a political dynasty. As for Lulgjuraj, he just prevailed against two lawsuits challenging his eligibility to remain on the ballot, with courts determining he had enough valid signatures to run. See you in August.
