POLL PROJECTIONS – SENATE

With the August 4 primary just a little over a month away and absentee voter ballots in the mail in late June, this month’s Magic 8 Ball predictions, or political polls, appear to be tightening in the senate and governor’s races. The viciously-contentious three-way race for the Democratic standard bearer for U.S. Senate, to replace retiring Senator Gary Peters (D-Bloomfield Township), will be a battle all the way to the ballot box. According to an early June poll by the League for American Workers, U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens leads the field with 35 percent; former Wayne County Health Director Abdul El-Sayed has 31 percent; and state Senator Mallory McMorrow has plummeted to just 13 percent. Against Republican candidate former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, Stevens appeared the strongest candidate of the bunch, leading Rogers 48 percent to 41 percent. McMorrow led Rogers 45 percent to 42 percent; while El-Sayed was in a statistical tie, leading Rogers 43 percent to 42 percent. Not good news for Republican Mike Rogers, especially since polling firm League for American Workers is “right-wing, pro-worker conservative advocacy group,” according to their website.
