Another Michigan Democratic congressman not feeling the love from his fellow congressman – nor his party – is Shri Thanedar (D-Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Highland Park), who introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegeseth –charging Hegseth with “Murder and Conspiracy to Murder, and for Reckless and Unlawful Mishandling of Classified Information.” “Pete Hegseth is uniquely unqualified to serve as Secretary of Defense,” Thanedar said in the release. “Every day he serves in this role, he puts American service members and their families in danger.” Punchbowl noted,“Democrats are deeply critical of Hegseth’s actions, but none have gone so far as Thanedar in pushing the futile effort of impeaching the Pentagon chief. The Michigan Democrat already drew the ire of party leaders in trying to impeach Trump earlier this year, and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries came out early in his dismissal effort as unworkable.” Thanedar, who has always stated that as a millionaire he self-funds his own campaigns, or from small donations, and never accepts corporate PAC money, has been found to be soliciting and accepting contributions from from at least three PACs with corporate ties, according to The Detroit News. Further, in the last two years, he has accepted at least $24,500 in corporate PAC donations. In 2026, Thanedar is facing a challenge from Democrat Donovan McKinney, who pledged to not accept any corporate PAC dollars.
