WHAT GOES AROUND
Former U.S. House member Pete Hoekstra (R-Western Michigan) has not made many friends in neighboring Canada for his unwavering backing of president Donald Trump’s unhinged attacks on what was once considered our closest trading partner. Hoekstra spent 1993-2011 in Congress and was named ambassador to the Netherlands during Trump’s first term in office, and he had complaints about incidents in that country also. Now some Canadians have said: enough. A petition with 200,000 signatures (only 500 were required) is asking to have parliament discuss removing Hoekstra as ambassador and declaring him “persona non-grata” for “diplomatic interference in Canadian domestic affairs.”
