Regardless of who the Democratic Senate candidate ends up being – the slugfests comes to a head in the August 4 primary election – Republicans recognize that Michigan is a state they want to flip if they intend to keep the Senate. To that end, the Senate Leadership Fund, the top Senate GOP super PAC, has already announced they intend to spend an eye-popping $342 million in battleground states this fall – with Michigan, and Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, earmarked for $45 million of that. The PAC, backed by Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota, said it’s the organization’s largest and earliest ever investments in Michigan. It will also commence a month earlier than it did in 2024, when Rogers narrowly lost (19,000 votes) to Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly), when they spent over $33 million in a failed attempt to get Rogers elected. Punchbowl said the large outlay is a “a tacit acknowledgement that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has put those seats into play with strong recruits.” “Senate Leadership Fund’s historic investment is a testament to the strength of Mike Rogers and our commitment to flip Michigan red in November,” SLF Executive Director Alex Latcham said in a statement. But one Republican Insider noted that Republicans acknowledge it’s going to be a tough go for Rogers. “Trump couldn’t carry him last time, and could cost him this time,” he said.
