LOOK WHO’S BACK, BACK AGAIN

New election cycle, some same old names. Republican Matt DePerno, who unsuccessfully ran for attorney general in 2022 against incumbent Dana Nessel, and then unsuccessfully ran to run the Michigan Republican Party in a two-fisted crazy battle against former party chair Kristina Karamo, is looking for his next act. His latest dream incarnation is as a Michigan State Supreme Court Justice, hoping to be nominated as one of his party’s two candidates at the state party’s August 24 convention. He may have a bigger problem though than his past electoral history. The Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission has an outstanding complaint against DePerno that was filed in June 2023, alleging multiple allegations involving violations of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct for attorneys, including filing a frivolous lawsuit, engaging in deceitful conduct, and knowingly making false statements. Someone involved said that he will likely lose his license to practice law. He’s also facing criminal charges, along with two allies, for their alleged efforts to ‘obtain, access and analyze Michigan voting machines that were used in the 2020 presidential election.’ According to cursory research, a disbarred attorney is unlikely to be permitted to be seated as a judge – even if they win their race. Word is DePerno is seeking former President Donald Trump’s endorsement. Several high honchos in Michigan Republican politics let word slip that “they’re trying to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
