The jockeying to fill Republican Congressman John James’ 10th District continues, with James powering on towards the governor’s mansion in 2026. The national organization Emily’s List announced it is endorsing candidate Christina Hines in the Democratic primary. Hines is a former Washtenaw County special victims prosecutor who is running against Pontiac Mayor Tim Greimel and former U.S. Commerce Department official Eric Chung to be the Democratic nominee for the 10th District, which is made up of the southern part of Macomb County along with parts of Oakland County, including Rochester and Rochester Hills. On the Republican side, Macomb County attorney Robert Lulgjuraj of Sterling Heights has declared his candidacy, and rumors are continuing to swirl that Michael Bouchard, Jr. – Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard’s son – intends to jump in, along with former Rep. Mike Bishop (R-Rochester, Rochester Hills), who served in Congress for two terms when this was the 8th District, and former state Rep. Rocky Raczkowski of Troy. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report currently rates the district as leaning Republican.
