Former state Sen. Adam Hollier (D-Detroit) is giving another go at attempting to take down Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-Detroit, Grosse Pointe). Thanedar, a three-term self-funded congressman who has drawn the ire of the Black community as there currently is no Black representation for the city of Detroit, was recently spotlighted as the single largest congressman in the country utilizing official office funds – known as franking – to promote himself in advertising, spending almost $1 million, which is half his office’s annual budget. In 2024, Hollier’s attempt to topple Thanedar came to naught as he was forced to drop out over forged and duplicated signatures. He told The Detroit News he is motivated to run again “by the people he’s talked to in the district who feel no one is trying to do anything about their struggles to buy their first home, afford their rent or why their hours are being cut back at work amid tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.”
